Sinan Ismail | My Story | A Little About Myself

My name is Sinan, I am a son, a husband and a father of 2 beautiful children - Qays (10 year old boy) and Melur (7 year old girl).

When I first started Omar & Hana in 2017, there were 5 main motivations:

• As a parent, I wanted high-quality Islamic cartoons for my kids
• As a content creator (and human), I wanted to create an impact
• As an entrepreneur, I wanted to fulfil a demand (parents were contacting us and asking us to do an Islamic cartoon)
• As a Muslim, I wanted to create Sadaqah Jariyah, for myself, and for others (I told myself, if I was going to continue my passion in cartoons and entertainment, it must have a good purpose and it should be content that will bring benefit to others)
• As a son, I had a strong role model and personal motivation. My late father was a Muslim scholar, a graduate of the renowned Al-Azhar University. He was a visionary, an educator at-heart, and we had always wanted to create an Islamic cartoon together. Sadly, he was called to be with The Creator in Ramadan 2014, but his spirit and passion live on in me, my family, in Omar & Hana, and now, in Durioo. (Please pray that Allah SWT reward this great man with Sadaqah Jariyah)

Omar & Hana was born in 2017 and Alhamdulillah, it has created an impact for millions of children all around world. 

Am I happy with what Omar & Hana has achieved? Of course… but, I keep asking myself this question:

If Omar & Hana (1 single cartoon) can create this level of impact… what could 10, 20 or 30 high-quality Islamic cartoons and shows create! The answer: A HUGE impact on Muslim children and their future. Hence, the reason we started Durioo.

My personal target for Durioo is to reach and impact the lives of the 400 million Muslim children all around the world. We hope to reach them through our online content and games, as well as books, events, merchandise, schools, partners or through our donations in the future. Insha'Allah.

Durioo Gets Investment To Kick Start

Subhanallah, I am humbled and happy to share that Durioo secured pre-seed funding from Y Combinator (a tech start-up accelerator that has previously funded the likes of Airbnb, Dropbox, DoorDash and Stripe) and Muslim investors from the US, UAE, UK, Bahrain, Malaysia and Australia. Alhamdulillah.

With the investment money, we are creating 11 Durioo Originals, Durioo+, Durioo Games and buying content from other Muslim producers. When we launch Durioo+ in Februray, you can start streaming episodes of our Durioo Originals and licensed content. And more content is planned to be introduced every week, Insha'Allah.
